Walk the Path of Legends

Royal Lytham & St Annes has been the host of ten Open Championships, two Ryder Cups and numerous other major tournaments. It’ll also be the venue for The Open Championship in 2012 and the Walker Cup in 2015.

It’s certainly a very prestigious golf club and has a history that’s unique.

I may have missed something, but this golf course is the biggest disappointment on my golf adventure. It may be a golf course suited for the big championships, but to me as an average golfer it didn’t tick any of the boxes that make it interesting and enjoyable.

To be right to the point, it’s a boring golf course and the design was not appealing to me. The conditions of the golf course was not good and yes, work was going on to improve many of the bunkers for the up coming Open next year. I believe they have plenty of work to be ready for The Open in July next year.

Yes, you need to be very precise with your shots to avoid the 206 (!!!) bunkers on the golf course and that’s not an easy task. Hole 7 through 11 is somewhat interesting with more appealing layout and sand dunes, but the rest didn’t do it for me – sorry.

Without my playing partner Tim Synk, this day would have been a disaster. Tim also played with me the day before at Royal Birkdale. I believe we share similar opinion about Royal Lytham & St Annes.

The highlight of the day was the girls in the clubhouse lounge – very nice.

What about the game? With lack of inspiration, I struggled to get an 83. 40 shots on the front nine and 43 shots on the back. Not much worked and it’s a day to quickly forget about.

As mentioned, it’s 206 bunkers on the golf course and below is a few of them:
